Create your own painted rock friends using color, paint, and simple art techniques. Make it bright, silly, realistic, or completely your own.

  • Paper or cardstock
  • Washable paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Water cup
  • Paper towel
👀 Before you start: Look at the finished picture. Read Step 1 only. Do Step 1. Then read Step 2. Keep going one step at a time. If a step says “ask a grown-up,” stop and get help before you continue.

  2. 2Put the dry rock on scrap paper.
  3. 3Choose the main color for your rock friend.
  4. 4Paint the biggest area first.
  5. 5Leave the rock alone until the paint is dry.
  6. 6Paint or draw two eyes.
  7. 7Add a mouth, hair, spots, clothes, or another silly detail.
  8. 8Let everything dry before you pick up your rock friend.
